Lutherans confess both the books of the Old Testament and the New Testament as God's revealed Word to us, and it is the authority for our life of faith. The Scriptures consist of many books written over thousands of years, and we continue to carefully and respectfully study them. For Lutherans the central part of Scripture is the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ whom we believe is testified to throughout Scripture.

"But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name." - John 20:31
